The Clapton CFC women’s team are moving from the Greater London Women’s Football League Division One to the Premier Division.

There’s no promotion involved, however, it’s just the result of a restructure of the women’s football pyramid. 

Last season’s Premier Division is now part of the London & South East League, meaning Division One becomes the new Premier. But it remains the seventh tier.

We are due to face the same opponents as last season except for bottom club Luton Town Reserves who have taken a voluntarily relegation.

Their place will be taken by Enfield Town Reserves coming up from the division below.

With Walton Casuals – who had already won the title before the 2019/20 season prematurely ended – and promotion challengers Crystal Palace Development and Islington Borough remaining in our division, it’s going to be a very high standard.

Happily most Greater London Women’s League clubs seem to have weathered the Covid-19 economic battering so far and several are joining the set-up lower down.

The league season is scheduled to start on September 13th so the team have several pre-season training matches in the diary before then,

The list at the moment, which is subject to change, is as follows..,

• Aug 16th 11am – away vs Enfield Town Reserves
• Aug 19th 7.30pm – away vs Enfield Town Reserves
• Aug 23rd 4pm – home vs Tower Hamlets
• Aug 30th 2pm – home vs Hackney WFC

Unfortunately. as it stands there will be no spectators allowed at any of these games. These are the rules for both the men’s and women’s non-league football pyramids unless and until the rules change.

There won’t be any Women’s FA Cup for us this season, unfortunately.

We’re still due to take part in the other cup competitions but the league will be prioritising league games.
