Clapton CFC vs Richmond Park preview: Women’s First Team back at home

Clapton Community FC vs Richmond Park takes place on Sunday, March 16 2025 with a 2pm kick off at the Old Spotted Dog Ground, Forest Gate, East London.

There are just six league games left for the Clapton CFC Women’s First Team this season plus of course that all important cup semi-final. The team are mathematically safe from relegation but are adrift of the top teams, so are likely to finish somewhere between fifth and eighth in the 12-team division.

It’s been stop/start recently and last weekend’s blank Sunday being the fifth of 2025 already. In fact this will be the team’s first home league game since January. That must be frustrating, particularly after such a good performance against Hackney last time out to reach the cup semis.

The alleyway has reopened! Work to build an extra outside toilet block has just begun. In addition to the indoor loos, we have four outdoor portakabins to reduce queues.

About the opposition

Richmond Park FC is a community football club for Kingston, Ham and Richmond. The women’s first team formed for the 21/22 season and won the new Surrey FA Women’s League with a 100% record. In their two seasons at our level they’ve finished in tenth place twice. This season they were due to merge with men’s club Hampton & Richmond Borough, but they pulled out, reportedly due to an unexpected water bill.

Form guide

Richmond Park are in 11th place, the second relegation place, so need wins to move out of the drop zone. The last few weeks have been tough, with heavy defeats against high-flyers Brentford and Leatherhead, but they recently beat AFC Whyteleafe and went close against Actonians Reserves and Ashmount Leigh.

Previous meetings

It’s been four wins and a draw in our meetings thus far. Earlier in the season, we won 5-1 away, while last season we won both meetings 7-1. The previous season’s games were played on the same day, back to back, shortened to 60 minutes. The first ended 0-0 then we won the second 2-1.

Player to watch

Carla Hobbs has scored seven goals since moving from Abbey Rangers earlier in the season.

Matchday programme

We produce a printed programme for all competitive Women and Men’s First Team home games.

They are free to pick up but donations are welcome. If 50 or so people donate £1 each game, that will cover our printing costs.

The programmes are also uploaded to the website after the game for those who could not make it. You can also buy a bundle of six random programmes for £3 from our website.

Cash or card?

Either is fine. Cash and cards are accepted everywhere in the ground – entrance, bar, merch stall and food stall.

However, paying cash at the entrance will be speedier for all, so if you can bring the right money in hard currency, we would appreciate it.

Hygiene bank collection

The hygiene bank collection is back at all home games, with the collection box at the entrance.

Our charity partners Magpie Project support mums and young children in temporary accommodation. They need:

● Toothpaste ● Toothbrush ● Shower gel ● Shampoo ● Deodorant ● Sanitary towel

Pitch access

The Grounds committee request all spectators keep off the pitch before games and at half-time. They need to carry out safety pitch inspections before play begins, which are voided if people have gone on the pitch.

After a game, in good weather, kids can have a run round and a kickabout on the pitch, but no adults please.

Children welcome

Prams and pushchairs are always very welcome at the OSD, but please avoid blocking walkways. Make sure all children are behind the perimeter fencing during games too please.

If/when Clapton CFC wins a game, children are invited to join the players in their post-match celebration on the side of the pitch. After a game, in good weather, kids can have a run round and a kickabout on the pitch, but no adults please.

Dogs welcome

Spectators are welcome, in fact encouraged, to bring dogs to the OSD, but please keep on leads. It’s free entry for dogs.
