We were aware that this news was coming, but now it is confirmed. Puma is no longer sponsoring the Israel Football Association.
In 2021, Clapton CFC members voted in favour of supporting the Palestinian call for Boycotts Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel’s regime of apartheid and military occupation.
We backed the BDS call to boycott Puma because it sponsored the IFA, which includes teams in illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian West Bank.
Puma’s contract with the IFA will end on December 31, 2024. That means Clapton CFC’s boycott of Puma products officially ends on that date too.
The BDS campaign have thanked us for working with them on this campaign. CCFC helped make this a model successful campaign.
The IFA’s new sponsor, effective January 1, 2025, will be Erreà. To give you an idea of just how small Erreà is in comparison, Puma’s revenue is 8.6 billion, Erreà’s is 40 million. Puma’s has 13M followers on Instagram, Erreà has 75K. The IFA sponsorship fee also took a hit, it is only 60% of what it was with Puma. We helped to make the IFA a toxic brand that major kit makers are staying away from.
