Ashmount Leigh vs Clapton CFC preview: Women’s First Team bid to carry on run

Ashmount Leigh vs Clapton CFC is on Sunday, October 27 at 3.30pm at Meadowbank Football Ground, Mill Lane, Dorking, Surrey RH4 1DX

The Clapton CFC Women’s First Team have won four in a row since their heavy defeat at Brentford. We’ll be hoping to continue that run away at Ashmount Leigh, who we beat at home in a high-scoring game during that winning run.

The opposition

Ashmount Leigh was set up in 2021 to give more opportunities for women in Surrey. They enjoyed two promotions on the bounce as well as lifting the League Cup then finished ninth in their first at this level last season. Originally based in the village of Nutfield, they moved to groundshare at Dorking Wanderers’ ground last season. The Ashmount name was inspired by the chair and vice-chair’s college in the United States with Leigh in honour of the grandfather of their club secretary.

Previous meetings

The teams met as recently as last month, with Clapton CFC winning 6-3. Emily Link scored twice with Aimee Shaw, Egle Trezzi, Maria Mendonca and Julia Moulton also on the scoresheet. Last season we did the double with a 2-1 win at home thanks to goals from subs Lenny Holmes and Marta Boiro and then a 4-3 thriller away with Maria Mendonca scoring twice plus goals from Egle Trezzi and Lucy Spours.

Form guide

Ashmount are in tenth place but have played the fewest league games so far – in fact we have played twice as many. They’ve only played one game in the league since our meeting in September due to cup games and postponements, losing a seven goal thriller at Denham United.

Players to watch

Former Crawley Wasps player Rosanne Fine has had an amazing start to the season with 6 goals in 6 games. Last season’s top scorer Danielle Boyd scored one of the goals against us last month.

Admission

It’s free admission. The bar and cafe is usually open on our visits to Meadowbank.
