Denham United vs Clapton CFC preview: Women’s First Team league away day

Denham United vs Clapton Community FC takes place at 2pm on Sunday, September 15 2024 at The Den, Oxford Road, New Denham, Uxbridge UB9 4DW.

Clapton CFC Women’s First Team head to Uxbridge on Sunday to take on Denham United still looking for a first win to kickstart the season. Things haven’t quite clicked for the team so far, but everyone watching in the stands can see these are great players who will come good sooner or later.

The opposition 

Denham United formed in 1998 and are the largest all female club in the south east of England, They have an impressive number of teams across a large age range and their own ground, The Den, in Uxbridge. They spent eight seasons in the FA Women’s National League Division 1 South, two levels above, before dropping back down to the sixth tier. 

Previous meetings 

It was 2 wins to 1 for CCFC last season. Denham won 5-4 in the League Cup, but we won 3-0 away and 2-0 at home in the league. The previous season, CCFC did the double with a 2-0 win away then 4-1 in our first competitive win at the Old Spotted Dog Ground. 

Form guide

It’s been a great start for Denham with two wins and a draw in the league, plus a big win in the FA Cup. They’ve scored a whopping 19 goals in those 4 games, conceding just 6.

Players to watch

Teenage striker Sofia Harris is second top scorer in the division with 7 goals already after breaking into the first team. Last season’s top scorer Jenny Nagle – who scored twice against us last season – is close behind on 4 this season.

It’s £2 entry with under 16s free. Dogs are not allowed. There is a bar on the site.

Travel and Directions

If travelling by public transport, the nearest station on the London Underground is Uxbridge. The ground is approximately 20 minutes’ walk from the station, heading northwest up Oxford Road (A4020). Alternatively, the 331 bus to Ruislip from Uxbridge Station (Stop L) will get you there. Alight at the stop for Knighton Way Lane.

If driving, car parking is available but limited, and we have been warned not to park in the community centre as cars may be clamped. Oxford Road (A4020) is off Junction 1 of the M40, where it meets the A40. Head southeast for around a quarter of a mile and the ground is on the left
