Champions! Clapton CFC men’s first team win the league table with two games to spare

The Clapton CFC men’s first team have won the Middlesex County Football League Premier Division title with two games to spare after a draw away at our friends Stonewall FC.

There were no goals and not a huge amount of chances in the game at the London Marathon Community Stadium, with sub Muhammad Mikaeel going closest with a shot off the bar.

However, that point was enough to make sure Indian Gymkhana were unable to catch us, even if they win all their remaining six games.

Congratulations to manager Geoff Ocran and assistant manager/coach Sham Darr for their second title win, along with the coaching team Jack Mellors, Matt Bailey and Graeme Hudson, and all 39 players who have played their part this season.

Promotion also depends on off-the-field work and we will find out sometime this month if the Old Spotted Dog Ground has passed ground grading.

If so, we would move to the Eastern Counties League Division One South featuring teams across Essex plus local sides like Barkingside, Newbury Forest and Tower Hamlets.

The season hasn’t ended, with the men’s first team playing OIR on Saturday and the women’s first team facing Dorking Wanderers on Sunday. Both games are at our home, the Old Spotted Dog Ground.
