Hackney WFC vs Clapton Community FC takes place on Thursday, April 3 2025 with a 7.45pm kick off at the Wadham Lodge Stadium, Walthamstow, East London.
After the excitement of Sunday’s semi-final win, it’s back to league action on Thursday night for the Clapton CFC Women’s First Team.
Before the cup final, there are four league games to go including this tasty looking East London derby against our friends at Hackney.
CCFC are currently in sixth and are going to finish somewhere between third and ninth in the final table – let’s see how high we can go.
It’s our third meeting with Hackney this season but the first game at Wadham Lodge – our former home – for either of our first teams since January 2023.
League rule state that local teams have to play each other in midweek to ease any potential fixture congestion caused by a bad winter. That’s proved unnecessary, thankfully, and in fact we’ve had around 10 free Sundays this season.
About the opposition
Hackney WFC was the first totally women-run team and the first out lesbian team in the country. It currently has around 100 players across its three teams. Last season they launched a new red and black kit which includes the club’s slogan, ‘Playing with Pride since 1986’, on the sleeve along with the progress flag and the black triangle which has been reclaimed by lesbians as a feminist symbol of pride and solidarity.
Form guide
Hackney sit in ninth place and could finish above us having three games in hand. Since we beat them in the cup, they’ve won one against Whyteleafe and drawn against high-flying Denham United. They also had a good run in the FA Cup with wins against Southminster United, Wootton Blue Cross and Hertford Town.
Previous meetings
Last month we triumphed 2-0 in the LSERFL Trophy while earlier in the season in the league, we won 3-0 under the lights. Last season it was a 3-1 win at the OSD but we lost the return game 4-2 on the Wadham Lodge 3G. We also won 1-0 there in the Capital Women’s Cup. The season before we won 2-0 at their then home at the Douglas Eyre Centre in Walthamstow but lost the return game 2-1 at the OSD.
