Leatherhead vs Clapton CFC preview: Surrey away day for Women’s First Team

Leatherhead vs Clapton Community FC takes place on Sunday, December 8 2024 with a 1pm kick off at Fetcham Grove, Guildford Road, Leatherhead, Surrey KT22 9AS

It’s back to London & South East Regional Women’s Football League action for the Clapton CFC Women’s First Team after a couple of cup ties.

Both of those games were narrowly lost – despite impressive performances – against strong opponents so Alice Sharpe and her team will be looking for a change in fortune. But Leatherhead are one of the best sides in the division, and will go third winning their games in hand.

The opposition

The successful Mole Valley Girls U18s team became Leatherhead Women in 2020 and it’s been a rollercoaster since. The Tanners were promoted in their first season, relegated in their second, and promoted again last season, their third. In fact they also won the league cup and reached the Capital Cup final too.

Previous meetings

Earlier this season, an impressive Leatherhead won 3-1 at the Old Spotted Dog Ground, with a crowd of 217. We first met twice two seasons ago, with Leatherhead winning the first ever competitive CCFC game at the Old Spotted Dog Ground 2-1, in front of an even better 400 spectators. We later gained some revenge, winning 4-1 away in a game moved to a 3G pitch at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.

Form guide

Leatherhead have carried on their form from last season’s promotion, with a 100 per cent record at home in the league. They’ve only lost two away too and are averaging over four goals a game.

Players to watch

Former Sutton United players Megan Button and Cassie Brown have 18 and 10 goals respectively this season, putting them both in the league’s top ten scorers. Both scored against us earlier in the season.

Admission

Admission to the game is free. The bar will be open before, during and after the game.

Transport and directions

The nearest railway station is Leatherhead, which is a 14 minutes’ walk away from the stadium. It’s outside of the TFL travel zone so you’ll need a train ticket.

The car park at the ground is free to use.
