Clapton CFC Men’s Development Team kick off season in top tier and exciting addition to management

This Sunday marks the beginning of the Men’s Development Team’s new season, with a 10:30 am kickoff against Hacks United at Hackney Marshes.

Following a strong pre-season performance with six wins and just one loss, the team, led by Jon Akaly and Tom Marsland, is gearing up for their first season in the Hackney and Leyton League Premier Division. This milestone comes after an impressive three promotions in as many seasons.

This year, the management team is delighted to welcome a new yet familiar face: player/coach Stefan Kilron. A true club stalwart, Stef has been with CCFC since the very first game away at Holland FC back in 2018, and his return is set to bring invaluable experience to the team.

The Development Team continues to play a vital role in nurturing talent for Geoff Ocran’s Men’s First Team, consistently producing promising players. Recent graduates include Emmanuel Olasehinde, Felix Murray, and Alasdair Gurney, alongside now established players like Bailey Pryce.

The Premier Division promises to be highly competitive this season, featuring last season’s champions, FC Niva, a Ukrainian side, as well as local rivals Hackney Borough with familiar faces James Briggs and Josh George.

Additional challengers include Badoo, boasting Arthur Wright, and City East, featuring Old Spotted Dog legend Jerry Jairette.

Adding to the excitement, the team will make its debut in the London Junior Cup this season, facing a challenging first-round away draw against Greenwich Park Rangers in October.

Facing tougher opponents this season, the squad is ready to rise to the challenge. All league matches are held at Hackney Marshes on Sunday mornings, with a 10:30 am kickoff. Spectators are encouraged to come along and show their support. Keep an eye on our social media channels for the latest fixture updates.

Come down, cheer on the team, and be part of another thrilling season of football!
