Dulwich Hamlet Reserves vs Clapton CFC preview: Women’s First Team head south

Dulwich Hamlet Reserves vs Clapton CFC is on Sunday, August 25 2024 at 2pm at St. Saviour’s & Saint Olave’s School Sports Ground, Green Dale, East Dulwich, London SE22 8TX

This Sunday sees our Women’s First Team renew old rivalries with an away trip to Dulwich Hamlet Reserves.

CCFC will be looking to get their season back on track after a surprise home loss on the opening day against Actonians Reserves. But it’s not going to be easy against a team who finished higher in the table last season and won their opening game.

The opposition

The current Dulwich Hamlet women’s team story began in 2010 under the name AFC Phoenix. The self-funded, fully independent and exclusively women’s club worked its way up the football pyramid. In 2018, the club decided to merge with Dulwich Hamlet, and the first team and reserves have played in the pink and blue since. Last season the first team pulled off an impressive promotion up against the likes of Fulham and Millwall, with crowds growing massively. The reserves, meanwhile, finished third in the division last season, one place above us.

Previous meetings

In our first meeting during the Covid-affected 2019/20 season, an injury hit CCFC succumbed to a 5-1 home defeat on the Wadham Lodge 3G. We opened our 2020/21 campaign with a narrow 2-1 defeat away. However, the team finally gained some revenge with a 5-1 win of their own. For 2022/23, we won a thrilling early season game 2-1 away, then drew the home game 1-1. Then in 2023/24, we lost 4-2 away and drew 2-2 at home.

Form guide

Dulwich opened up their season with an impressive 4-2 home win against Richmond Park, with two goals apiece for debutants Emily Auld and Shakirra Sesay.
