Camden & Islington United vs Clapton Community FC takes place on Sunday, January 14 2024 with a 2pm kick off at Regents Park, London NW1 4NR
The Clapton CFC women’s first team are back for the first time in three weeks with a short trip to play Camden & Islington United at Regent’s Park. This will be only our third away league game of the season, and amazingly it’s the first since September.
The CCFC team is still managerless, but the committee are hoping to appoint a new head coach soon, perhaps in time for this game. We lie in sixth place in the table but third if you work out the points per game, which means there’s a chance of a promotion push for the second half of the season.
The opposition
Formerly known as the New London Lionesses, they formed in 2015 and gained five promotions all the way up to the London & South East League Premier Division, the fifth tier. Their progress stalled however as they were relegated last season, and they were all set to quit. However, Camden and Islington United released a statement in May announcing that the team would be joining their fold instead.
Previous meetings
We played Camden and Islington United at home earlier in the season, resulting in a 6-0 win for CCFC.
Form guide
It’s been a tough season so far for the Candi, who are yet to win a game in the league. In their last home game, however, they lost 2-1 against Ashmount Leigh so there’s big signs of improvement.
Players to watch
Jade Slater is top scorer with 3 goals in 8 games.
Admission
It’s public park vibes. There’s a cafe next to the Regent’s Park sports pitches, The Hub Cafe, serving refreshments.
The Regent’s Park’s sports pitches are in the north of the park, not far from London Zoo. By Tube, there are loads of choices. Baker Street and St John’s Wood are both 20 minute walks, Regent’s Park and Great Portland Street 23 minutes. Even Euston and Euston Square are only around 30 mins’ walk.
