May & Baker vs Clapton CFC preview: Friday night away day for men’s first team

The Clapton CFC men’s first team are back in action with a first Friday night game for nearly two years.

It’s also a first ever meeting with May & Baker FC as well as a first ever visit to Aveley’s Parkside Ground in South Ockendon.

It’s been more than an adequate start for CCFC, notching up 2 wins and 2 draws in their new Eastern Counties League after last season’s promotion. The only defeat has come in the League Cup away at Hutton.

With last season’s top scorer Fred Taylor sadly getting injured in our final pre-season game, Arthur Wright has seized the chance for a run in the team up top and has scored four goals.

The Bakers are solidly in mid-table with 2 wins, a draw and 3 defeats in all competitions, while last season’s top scorer Abidemi Lamina is one to watch having already hit 3 goals in 3 games.

About May & Baker Eastbrook Community Club

May & Baker FC is the former works team for the chemical factory which operated in Dagenham until 2014. The club badge features the sulphonamide M&B693 on it.

The football team can trace its history back to 1923 and until 2018 played next to the factory, but had to move first to Barking Rugby Club and now Aveley’s Parkside in order to climb up the levels.

The club – now called the May & Baker Eastbrook Community Club to incorporate the name of the area of Dagenham – also features a big youth section as well as other sports teams.

They’ve been in the Eastern Counties League Division One South since it was founded in 2018 and have finished as high as fourth in the table.
