The Clapton CFC men’s first team’s visit to Stonewall FC for a Friday night East London derby has unfortunately been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Home officials inspection the pitch this afternoon and – with no end in sight for the relentless rain – have been forced to postpone it.

The weather in late March has been terrible and the London Marathon Stadium won’t be the only waterlogged grass pitch in the area this weekend.

The game has been rearranged for Tuesday, May 2. Further details on tickets for that will be announced in due course.

Everyone is gutted given the game was sold out to capacity and set to be great celebration of football and friendship with Stonewall FC.

It was also a crucial game at both ends of the table. CCFC are in first place, needing two wins for promotion, as long as the Old Spotted Dog Ground passes the ground grading requirements by Friday too.

Meanwhile Stonewall FC need the points to stay out of the Middlesex County Football League Premier Division relegation zone. However, they’ve picked up 4 points from their last two games against high-flying Larkspur Rovers and Kensington Dragons.

Previous meetings have nearly always been goal-fests – an average of four goals a match – and over 3,000 people have been through the turnstiles.
