There are seven games left for the men’s first team this season with the final fixtures now scheduled by the league.
Clapton CFC and Shepherd’s Bush, are the only promotion applicants this season so it’s a straight fight between the top two in the Middlesex County Football League Premier Division.
CCFC have a ‘home’ game on the Hackney Marshes show pitch this Saturday against Indian Gymkhana – hopefully, possibly, our last nomadic home game.
That’s followed by a Non-League Day away game at Pitshanger Dynamo on March 25, a big Friday night in Stratford away at our friends Stonewall FC on March 31, then an away trip to AVA on April 8.
We then have a Saturday off before a home game vs Kensington Dragons, which will hopefully take place at the Old Spotted Dog Ground.
That’s because the changing rooms are due to be rebuilt by the end of March, in time for promotion ground grading. If we get that sorted in time, the OSD should be available to us in April and beyond.
We then finish the season with two games against OIR – away on April 29 and then home on May 6.
Shepherd’s Bush can get to 59 points if they win their remaining 7 games, so CCFC need 4 wins from our last 7 games to finish above them.
However, the top team will only be promoted if they also pass the ground grading inspection, and if not the runners-up could take their place.
Following a very positive inspection by the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties Football League, we are confident the OSD can pass the grading required, though there is still lots of work to be done.
It’s shaping up to be an exciting couple of months, on and off the pitch.
