Sunday brings a massive game for our women’s first team as a win and 3 points could see us kick off 2023 by leapfrogging rivals to the top of the table.
With the great news about our purchase of the Old Spotted Dog Ground dressing rooms, the club starts the year on a positive footing, looking forward to having both our first teams playing home games from London’s oldest senior football ground.
Sunday’s task will be to return to winning ways after a string of stuttering results in November and December, bookended by winter weather postponements.
The game has been moved from Leatherhead’s Fetcham Grove ground to the University of Surrey Sports Park in Guildford, an even further distance from our patch of East London. Kick off is also now later at 2.30pm.
The home tie earlier this year was CCFC’s first competitive fixture at the Old Spotted Dog Ground. However, Leatherhead failed to read the script and scored a 92nd minute winner in front of 400 watching Clapton fans. Could defeat in that historic fixture be a motivating factor for our team?
Leatherhead finished 2022 with a tricky run of form, winning just once in their last seven games across all competitions. The sole victory came in a 7-4 goalfest against Hackney WFC on 18th December. So, have Leatherhead turned a corner, or could it be Clapton fans dancing by the light of the moon come Sunday eve? Only time will tell.
