This Saturday’s opponents Camden United were formed in 2019 by a group of friends to tackle knife crime through the power of football.
They started out with Sunday league and Wednesday night league men’s teams and then added two boys’ teams, offering free training sessions through volunteers.
This summer they branched out into Saturday men’s football by merging with FC Soma, taking their place in the Middlesex County Football League Premier Division.
FC Soma manager Mansor Omar and 13 of last season’s squad have stayed on. Given Soma completed the double over us last season, winning 4-2 and 2-1, then they will no doubt be a tough nut to crack.
The team plays home games outside of Camden in Barnet, in fact very close to the old Underhill stadium.
Last month, tragedy struck when club co-founder Abdulaziz Munye died aged just 28. The huge turnout for his funeral showed how much he will be missed in Camden. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.
