Sadly Justin Cummins has stepped down as the manager of our Sunday CCFC mens’s development team to concentrate on playing Saturday football.
Player-physio Jon Akaly has been chosen by the men’s development team to take over with Tom Marsland remaining as assistant manager.
Everyone at the club thanks Justin for his hard work over the last three seasons, particularly in bringing through many players into the first team squad.
Justin told us:
Some of you already know this but I thought I’d make it official. I have decided to step down as manager of the CCFC Development team.
I want to get back to playing again while I still can so I’ve signed to a local team to play on Saturdays. I can’t manage playing on Saturdays and managing on Sundays and have enough family time.
I made the decision to step down before pre-season started but wanted to wait until we had the right person so take over.
Moving forward Jon Akaly and Tom Marsland will be in charge as of now.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that’s helped me over the last couple of seasons, don’t think we would be where we are now without it.
Last season was by far the most fun and rewarding season I’ve had as a manager. To win the league and to see 8/9 Development players make their debut for the first team has really just topped it off for me. Players like Fionn Glancy and Bailey Pryce are now regular starters for the first team.
We’ve also seen the players from Renaissance FC (a refugee project) come on and develop, like Shan Chol who was top scorer last season. To come from where he’s come from and see him progress is special.
On the other hand you’ve also got players like Felix Fitzwilliam who had never played men’s football before, now he’s won a division and also been called up to the men’s first team.
To go from not having a team at all to a title-winning side is a brilliant achievement.
CCFC always ❤️⚽️
As we say goodbye, a new season is starting. The men’s development team have stepped up to Hackney & Leyton Football League Division 2 and play the first game of the season on Sunday at 10.30am on Hackney Marshes.
If you can’t make the women’s first team trip to Whyteleafe then why not cheer on the development team? We announce the pitch number before kick off on Twitter.
