This Sunday sees our women’s first team renew old rivalries with an away trip to Dulwich Hamlet Reserves, having picked up our first win of the season last weekend at Denham United.
Please note the kick-off for this game has been brought forward an hour, and the venue has been changed.
Our history of these games has been somewhat odd, with postponements and a game played behind closed doors as a result of the pandemic meaning that this will be the team’s first away visit accompanied by fans.
Dulwich Hamlet Reserves were promoted to London & South East Regional Women’s League Division One North the year before Clapton Community FC, previously sharing two seasons with us in the Greater London Women’s Football League Premier Division.
The Hamlet finished last season in an impressive third place at this level, winning the home fixtures against the teams in first and second. They’ve also started this season in good form, with two wins out of two.
Our previous meetings have been a mixed bag. In our first meeting during the 2019/20 season, an injury hit CCFC succumbed to a 5-1 home defeat on the Wadham Lodge 3G. The season was later abandoned due to Covid-19 before the away fixture could be fulfilled following multiple weather postponements.
We opened our 2020/21 campaign with a narrow 2-1 defeat away at Dulwich behind closed doors. However, the team finally gained some revenge by overturning that 5-1 scoreline in that season’s return fixture, with the goals in that game coming from Lucy Spours, Maria Mendonca, Emily Link, Larissa Vieira, and Ciara Robinson.
