We’re sorry to say that Hillingdon FC have announced the game against Clapton CFC men’s team on Saturday, February 1st is postponed.
Their landlords, Brunel University, advise that their pitches have recently been over-used, require a rest and are therefore unavailable for our game.
The full email from Brunel University sent to us this evening is as follows…
As a result from university football fixtures on Wednesday, two of our playing field pitches were overly used and so unfortunately I have had to take the decision to rest them over the weekend.
Likewise, the centre pitch have been over used the past week and with the recent spate of weather the pitch requires to be rested, so again, unfortunately I am going to have to cancel your first team’s fixture that was planned for this Saturday.
Sincere apologies but hopefully we can get these fixtures rescheduled.
As it stands, the men’s team’s next match is in two weeks on February 15th at home to Larkspur Rovers, but keep an eye on our social media and website for any further changes.
In the meantime, there’s the women’s team cup game on Sunday, February 2nd away at Clapham United on Clapham Common Northside and a league game away on Sunday, February 9th at Dulwich Hamlet Reserves.
Original match preview…
The Clapton CFC men’s team return to Hillingdon FC on Saturday, February 1st hoping for a repeat of our cup meeting in September.
On that visit, we ran out 3-0 winners, though our hosts gave us two penalties, and went down to eight players with two sent off and one sin-binned.
The Tons are on a nine-match unbeaten run but Hillingdon are only just behind us in the table so it promises to be a close run clash.
Our hosts were founded in 1989 as a youth football club, Hillingdon Irish Saints FC, and have 14 teams in total at a variety of age groups and levels.
They added a senior men’s side in 2006/7 and joined the Middlesex County Football League the next season, starting in Division 3.
Three promotions in four seasons quickly took them to the Premier Division and in 2014/15 they won the title, but missed out on another promotion due to ground issues.
Last season they finished eighth and that’s where they lie now. There’s been an average of more than five goals a game in either end, so Hillingdon are nothing if not entertaininf.
Former Arsenal youth player Tyler Hayles looks like one to watch, scoring 12 in 17, while both he and Gregg Berry have netted in each of the last three games.
